Feldman was born as the daughter of Nathan Barth and Janet Dubin Barth in 1965. She grew up with a sister named Rachele Tinkelman and two brothers called Mort Tinkelman and David Feldman in Lawrence, Long Island.
Her father Nathan, aka Nat, was a reputed orthodontist and a successful stockbroker, whereas her mother Janet was a homemaker.
Barth's parents were married for 59 years until her dad passed away at the age of 87 in 2011. Janet also died the same year; she was 82 years old at the time of her passing.
Barbra graduated from the Lawrence Woodmere Academy in 1982. She later attended Brandeis University and eventually received her undergraduate degree in 1986.
In 1989, Barth passed out from Hofstra Law School with a law degree. After completing her education, she initially worked for the Hewlett-Woodmere School District.
Barbra joined Lawrence Woodmere Academy as its summer camp director in 2010; she was later promoted to head of school.
Feldman passed away at the age of 54 on August 8, 2019. Although the cause of her death was initially mentioned to be a short illness, it was later identified as cancer.
Post her death, her friends and well-wishers started a donation campaign to renovate the Hessel Hall in the Black Box Theater and change the building's name to Barbra Barth Feldman Performing Arts Center.
